Dyslexia is an unexpected difficulty in reading. It occurs at every level of intelligence, in people who have the ability to read far better than they do.
Dyslexic readers are often slow readers and fast, creative thinkers with strong reasoning ability. A dyslexic brain is wired to do some things differently, not worse.
Dyslexia is lifelong and cannot be cured, but with the right support dyslexic children become highly successful students and adults. Early diagnosis is critical.

Alabama screens for dyslexia
Alabama requires universal reading screening in grades K through 3, and students who do not respond to intervention must be screened for characteristics of dyslexia. Parents and teachers can also request that screening.
